NFL club owners approved the Pistons manager's acquisition of a 27 percent stake in the Los Angeles Chargers during Tuesday's meeting.
Under the terms of the agreement, Gorse will not gain control of the club's operations or the ability to gain that control in the future. He also will not be involved in the management of the team.
The deal follows a long-running family dispute among the Chargers' owners.
The 60-year-old Gorse's fortune is estimated at $11.8 billion.
