New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said ahead of the game against the Miami Dolphins that Antonio Gibson will be in the starting lineup instead of early enrollee Ramondray Stephenson.
Stevenson has allowed a fumble in each of his four games this season.
“You can't keep talking about keeping the ball safe and still give him the lion's share of playing time. That way we leave a message for the players - there are things we are not entitled to do. Especially given the level of our team at the moment,” Mayo said.
Stevenson has carried the ball 65 times this season for 267 yards (4.1-yard average) and scored 2 touchdowns. Of the 4 fumbles, the Patriots players were able to maintain possession on two occasions.
The New England vs. Miami matchup will take place on Sunday and will kick off at 8:00 p.m. Moscow time.
