Tom Gores will become a co-owner of the Chargers.
The owner of the Pistons is finalizing negotiations to buy a 27 percent stake in the NFL club. The amount of the deal has not been disclosed.
Under the terms of the agreement, Gorse will not gain control of the club's operations or the ability to gain that control in the future. Gorse will not be involved in the management of the team.
The purchase will likely be approved at next month's NFL club owners meeting in Atlanta.
The deal follows a long-running family dispute among Chargers owners.
